Adding connectivity to a client’s established device

A client’s enclosure and board were already settled when a new buyer requested remote communication. YIIIOT developed the communication extension and device-to-platform integration around those existing constraints.

Illustrative story. The customer, conversation and outcome are examples, not a delivered customer project or measured result.

The client wanted to protect its investment and meet a new request

An equipment maker brought an established product to YIIIOT. A buyer wanted connectivity or location features, but the client’s enclosure, board, power supply and interfaces had limited room for the upgrade.

Earlier proposals involved replacing boards or changing tooling. The client asked us to assess the constraints together and establish which existing parts could be retained.

The buyer wants remote features, but the board and tooling are already an investment. Can the new requirement fit while preserving as much of that work as possible?

We examined the actual device

YIIIOT reviewed space, power headroom, interfaces and mounting alongside the remote task. Location and communication requirements were considered separately.

Supporting circuits, antennas, heat and assembly were included. We explained each necessary change and its effect so the client could choose how to preserve the existing design.

YIIIOT integrated the extension with the original product

We developed the communication extension and host-firmware adaptation, then connected the new data to the platform. Mechanical constraints, interfaces and business functions shared one development brief.

Power and connection checks informed the design. Update behavior and continuity of existing functions during service interruptions were included, with retained and changed parts identified by version.

The client had an upgrade it could take forward

In this example, YIIIOT resolved the conflict between the new function and the established design with an upgrade prototype for the agreed installation checks. The client could see what remained useful and what still required validation.

We handed hardware, firmware, interface and assembly changes to the client’s production and support teams. They could distinguish versions and assess the next extension from a documented starting point.
