Helping a plush-toy brand give a familiar character new ways to interact

The client had established toys and characters and wanted an ongoing experience after purchase. YIIIOT developed audio hardware, firmware, character services and content-update tools for an interactive version.

The client brought its own character and established toy

The plush-toy company had products and a familiar supply chain. It wanted its characters to tell stories and take part in games after being brought home, extending how people experienced the brand.

It approached YIIIOT to develop the product and clarify content work, running costs and support. We took responsibility for the additional electronics and software around the client’s shape and character design.

We have put a lot into this character. Will AI give people a reason to come back, once the novelty wears off?

We explored a reason to pick the toy up again

YIIIOT and the brand team selected one character and defined a first experience around shared stories, small tasks or regular interaction.

Shape, feel and manufacturing conditions informed the design. We explained the electronics and audio trade-offs so the character experience and production constraints could work together.

YIIIOT developed the interaction and update workflow

We integrated audio, connected firmware and character services and developed content updates, device status and required management tools. The client could operate a representative prototype.

Handling of interruptions, home-network outages and unavailable services was included. Content responsibilities and system updates and maintenance formed part of the handover.

The client had a foundation for an ongoing interactive product

In this example, YIIIOT bridged the client’s gap between traditional toy manufacture and electronics and software services. The client received a version it could demonstrate, trial and update.

Content and device versions remained traceable for later activities and products. Continued engagement and market performance still needed to be assessed through the client’s actual trials and business feedback.
